Sometimes I dye a piece of fabric that inspires me to design an entirely new quilt. The dark squarish centers of the blocks in this quilt were all cut from one piece of fabric: a masking tape resist over an ombre. To frame each center, I chose fairly active fabrics from my shelves.
The edges of the final quilt presented a challenge. I tried out several ideas before deciding to line up strips of the colorful framing fabrics. I finished the borders with a couple different ombres, and more squares in the corners.
